According to Nashville Police Chief John Drake, a car found near Covenant School gave police a clue to the shooter’s identity. “But as I said, this investigation is still ongoing,” Drake said without elaborating further.
Police have not yet identified the shooter or victims of Monday’s shooting. Police are still investigating how the shooter, a 28-year-old white woman, got into the school.
“One door was kicked in. As far as we know, all the doors are locked, and exactly how she got in at that time is still under investigation,” Drake said. According to Drake, the school has a school shooter protocol.

The 28-year-old gunman who killed three students and three adults at Covenant School in Nashville appeared to be a student at the school, police said. “She was a student at this school, but not sure what year it was,” Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said.
Families of all six victims have been notified, the official said, without disclosing any identities. “Right now I’m not going to reveal the age, just to say I was literally tearing up seeing all of this and the kids being taken out of the building,” Drake said.
In response to the Nashville shooting, U.S. President Joe Biden said Monday it was “a heartbreaking family’s worst nightmare.”
At a White House event hosting a summit for women-owned small businesses, Biden praised local police, who he said “acted very quickly and ended threats within minutes.”
“We must do more to stop gun violence. It is tearing apart our communities, tearing the soul of this country, tearing the soul of this country,” Biden said. “We must do more to protect our schools from being turned into prisons.”
Biden said the shooter had two assault weapons and a pistol, adding, “I again urge Congress to pass my assault weapons ban.” Now is the time for us to start making more progress. “
