Cindy’s electrifying performances have earned her a reputation as one of Canada’s premier fiddle tap groups. Cindy performs in her own style, full of spontaneity, fun and musical excellence.
Cindy’s lifelong goal is to preserve traditional music. She has achieved this through her teaching, which includes over 40 years of private tutoring as well as teaching violin/tap at violin and folk camps and on college campuses. Cindy has also appeared on national radio and television, performed with symphony orchestras, released 3 records, and performed at major folk festivals, arts shows, and special events in Canada and the United States
Cindy hails from the Ottawa Valley and comes from a musical family. She started tap dancing at the age of six and started playing the violin at the age of twelve. Cindy was largely self-taught, beginning with the influence of her grandfather, Robert Barker. She knew from an early age that violin and tap dancing were her passions and loudly announced that her career choice was to become a violinist and tap dancer.
Cindy wanted to be different, so she learned both the violin and tap dancing, developing her own unique style of performance. As a teenager, Thompson toured the country, wowing judges and audiences alike. Cindy has won the Canadian Tap Dance Championships and numerous violin awards; including the North American Violin Competition in Shelburne, Ontario.
