The trailer shows the African superstar in a TV interview while fans await the Afrobeats star’s fourth studio album, which has been announced for release on March 31. It will be Davido’s first acoustic album after a five-month hiatus from the public, and his first since 2020’s A Better Time.
Released via Spotify’s social channels, the trailer shows Davido answering questions about his new album, describing it simply in one word; timeless. Nearby, a teleprompter plays the highly anticipated tracklist and collaborations from the album.
Davido’s team describes Timeless as “a complete work that transcends fads and trends. It’s an authentic work that stays true to Davido’s core as an artist, delighting fans all over the world with his music. You listen today The song that arrives will be as important tomorrow, so it’s forever.” The album will feature 17 tracks, including Champion Sound, previously released with Amapiano ambassador Focalistic.
It also boasts a roster of established international artists as well as up-and-coming local artists, living up to Davido’s decades-long reputation as a liaison and collaborator with Afrobeats and global music. They include British grime legend Skepta, dancehall king Dexta Daps, Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo and Nigerian hit Asake.
Davido also uses the album to highlight emerging talent such as Nigerian singers Logos olori and Fave, as well as exciting Nigerian folk band The Cavemen and digital content creator Morravey. The trailer follows a Spotify-exclusive stream of Timeless Afro, a Davido-curated playlist of the most traditional Afrobeat songs.
These moves support the artist’s return to the public eye and are in line with Spotify’s long-standing mission to support African music and its creators. Regarding the trailer, Victor Okpala, West African Artist and Label Partnerships Manager at Spotify, said the launch is a highly anticipated moment for one of the greatest ambassadors of African music in the digital age.
