He is believed to have last been seen in public seven weeks before he was hospitalized last year, attending a Triple M staff meeting at a Sydney hotel.
Known for his outrageous humor and memorable radio personas, Mulray delivered moving speeches at gatherings of radio veterans. “We were the right people, at the right time, in the right place, with the right attitude,” he says, recalling the days when Triple M dominated music radio.
Mulray made their debut on ABC radio station 2JJ in the 1970s before changing their name to Triple J and moving to new commercial station Triple M in 1982.
“It’s an amazing thing to be a part of,” he once said of his time at Triple M.
“When I left the station, I was over. I wanted privacy, I kind of distanced myself…it was like a fantasy.
