In addition to serving as Artistic Director of the Bard Theatre, Doug Schutte is currently a playwright in residence. The plays listed below have all been produced (some with world premieres) by the Bard Theatre, and many have received second and third productions elsewhere. (For Schutte works premiered/performed elsewhere, please contact Schutte or his current representative).
Schutte transitioned from writing for the screen to writing for the stage while working at Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Since then, Schutte has been rekindled by her love of the stage, writing almost exclusively for live theater, save for the occasional magazine article, political ad or web series.
Performer’s Note: In listing the casting requirements for the plays below, I have provided the cast for the main stage production at the Bard Theatre. These are by no means “requirements”. I love the characters (and text) I create so much that I have no interest in putting them in the corner. Minting can be anything that works for you and your business unless otherwise stated. Do you want to make CHASING OPHELIA with an all female cast? sounds good. Do you want to make The King of Christmas with only an African-American cast, or only older ones, or even without a double cast? please..
If you would like to inquire about Schutte’s work, please email [email protected] or contact the designated licensing company.
