Doug Schutte is a playwright in residence at the Bard Theatre right now in addition to being the organization’s artistic director. The plays on the following list have all been presented by the Bard Theatre (some with world premieres), and many have gone on to earn second and third productions abroad. (For premieres or performances of Schutte works elsewhere, please get in touch with Schutte or his current representative.)
When working at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, Schutte switched from writing for the cinema to writing for the stage. Since then, Schutte’s passion for the stage has been reignited, and she now primarily writes for live theater with the occasional magazine article, political ad, or online series.
Performer’s Note: I have included the cast for the Bard Theatre’s main stage performance along with the casting specifications for the plays below. By no means are these “requirements.” I have no interest in relegating the characters (and text) I make to the side because I adore them so much. Unless otherwise specified, minting can be anything that works for you and your business. Do you want to cast only women in CHASING OPHELIA? excellent sounds Would you like to make The King of Christmas without a double cast, with an all-African-American cast, with just elderly actors? please..
Contact the designated licensing business or send an email to doug@thebardstown.com if you have any questions concerning Schutte’s work.
