Over the past nine days, we’ve learned more about Jason Arno, a family man, firefighter and friend. “Jason Arno was a full-time member of Buffalo Fire Department Engine 2 for three years. He is 37 years old. Buffalo Fire Department Chief William Renaldo and I met with the family last night. They are a very hospitable and close-knit family,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said last Thursday.
In the days since firefighter Jason Arno passed away on March 1, we’ve learned a lot more about him and his legacy. “Just a bright young man with everything in front of him. Just married last summer. There’s a three-year-old girl in the house. His future is in his hands,” said Buffalo Fire Chief William Renaldo. Before him, he was a model firefighter and employee.
“The Buffalo Fire Department is such a big family. We’re all connected. Fraternity. Sorority. You know, we’re all in this together, like any family, and when a family member dies, it’s a sadness, ’” he told Buffalo Fire Chaplain Father Paul Searle. Jason Arno is survived by his wife Sarah and their daughter Olivia. In an article in this week’s Buffalo News, when Olivia was born, Arnold’s brother Delton said, “Everything he did, he did for her.”
On the family’s GoFundMe page, Delton said: “It is heartbreaking that she and his wife, these two beautiful souls, have to deal with these disgustingly unfair circumstances.” Jason Arno in 2003 Graduated from Canisius High School and joined the Buffalo Fire Department three years ago. He will receive the award at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Friday.
“We first and foremost want the family of firefighter Arno to feel comforted that they can grieve and respect their privacy, for example, just being together, with God and praying and hopefully still being touched by it all.” Everyone tried to wrap their heads around Watching her and that’s her love,” said the Rev. Sean Paul Fleming, dean of St. Joseph’s Cathedral.
Buffalo Fire Chief William Renaldo added, “He was a hero. He was a brave, dedicated firefighter. You know, he took the job with his eyes wide open Served the people of Buffalo and he needs to be commended for that.” He was honored for that. “On Thursday, Reynaldo said that Arnold is an all-rounder and that no one has anything bad to say about the man.
