The Golden State Warriors haven’t gotten off to the start of the season they desired. Their schedule has been brutal, and they’ve already dropped a couple of matchups vs. contending rivals.

Their toughest loss yet came at the hands of the Phoenix Suns. They fought their way back into the game over and over, but their efforts fell short in the second half.

Devin Booker, Klay Thompson Get Into It

The game went out of hand when Klay Thompson was ejected for the first time in his career.

Things got chippy between him and Devin Booker, up to the point where the referees had no choice but to send the Splash Brother to the locker room.

Thompson — who doesn’t talk too much and is usually more of a laid-back kind of guy — was visibly livid on his way out of the court.

Booker Explains What Happened

So, after the game, Devin Booker cleared the air and shared his thoughts on what had happened. Notably, he showed nothing but respect for Thompson and his competitiveness:

“Just two competitors. In my postgame interview I said it. I love Klay Thompson, I have for a really long time. But that doesn’t excuse us being competitive and talking to each other,” Booker said. “I’ve always admired his game, how he plays on both sides of the ball. Obviously, the rings speak for themselves… He was having a tough night, I think everything plays into that. Just frustration, I’ve been there before. They have four rings, and they’re gonna use that in all their trash talk. And rightfully so. Respectfully. But that doesn’t have nothing to do with competing.”Thompson Is Frustrated

Thompson’s body language makes us think he’s not having a good time right now. And Warriors coach Steve Kerr confirmed he’s frustrated because he wants to be on the floor. However, the Dubs won’t leave anything to chance as they prepare for a long season:

“He’s frustrated that he can’t play more right now,” the coach said. “He’d like to have his minutes bumped up, but the reality is you get a little older as a player when you’ve had some injuries is you’ve got to be a little more patient. You have to be on top of everything all year long, and you’ve got to be careful. We’re not going to mess around with that. So, his minutes will stay the same and he’ll be frustrated because he’s Klay, but he’ll be fine.”It’s Been A Great Run

Thompson isn’t getting any younger and he overcame two major injuries in the past three years, so it would make sense to see his minutes start to dip from this point on.

He’s one of the greatest shooters of all time and one of the main reasons why the Warriors were able to become a dynasty.
