At around 4:05 p.m. on Feb. 22, Sheriff John Mina said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference Wednesday night. News crews reported a murder earlier in the day on Hialeah Street in Pine Hills. Sheriff Mina said their reported murder occurred around 11 a.m. today and a 20-year-old woman was killed.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect shot and killed the news worker nearby or in his vehicle.
Later in the area, a mother and her 9-year-old daughter were shot and killed by the same suspect, Sheriff Mina said. The mother was in critical condition, while the 9-year-old girl died of her injuries.
Keith Melvin Moses, 19, has been taken into custody, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Mina said at a news conference. So far, they have no motive. Deputies linked Moses to the murder reported by the newsgroup.
A television journalist and a 9-year-old girl were shot and killed at a crime scene Wednesday, after a woman was killed earlier in the day, Florida police said. According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, deputies responded to the first shots fired on Hialeah Street around 11 a.m.
Sheriff Mina said the first shooting resulted in the death of a woman in her 20s. Around 4:00 p.m., authorities responded to an earlier crime scene reporting two other shootings in the area.
A Spectrum News 13 reporter and cameraman were shot and killed near a vehicle where they were covering an earlier murder, the sheriff said. The same individual then entered a nearby house and shot and killed a woman and her 9-year-old daughter, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
One of the journalists and a 9-year-old girl died of their injuries, the sheriff said. Detectives gathered evidence and arrested a suspect, identified as 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses. Investigators believe Moses was involved in all of the shootings. He faces multiple criminal charges, including murder.
“It’s hard to say if he targeted this news team. That will be part of our investigation,” Sheriff Mina said.
