News of Lance Reddick’s passing at the age of 60 has saddened fans of his performances as Cedric Daniels in The Wire, and Charon in the John Wick series. Reports from TMZ indicate that Reddick was found deceased around 9:30 AM this morning at his home in Studio City. Though the reason for his passing is not yet known, law enforcement authorities have suggested that it appeared to be natural. The late actor had been scheduled to return as Charon in the forthcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, set to hit theaters next week.
With more than 100 acting credits to his name, Reddick was set to appear in various upcoming projects, including the remake of White Men Can’t Jump and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He was also confirmed to play Charon in the forthcoming John Wick spin-off, Ballerina. As he promoted John Wick: Chapter 4, Reddick took to social media to celebrate National Puppy Day. He was scheduled to appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show next week to discuss his latest release.
Reddick, a Baltimore native, pursued his passion for classical music composition at the prestigious Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. Graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree, he went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale in 1994. Reddick’s acting career began in the 1990s, with initial onscreen appearances on popular shows like New York Undercover, Swift Justice, and The Nanny. In 1998, he made his cinematic debut playing Anton Le Farge in Alfonso Cuarón’s Great Expectations. He has since starred in numerous films, including The Siege, I Dreamed of Africa, Don’t Say a Word, Tennessee, The Way of War, Jonah Hex, Won’t Back Down, White House Down, The Guest, Little Woods, Sylvie’s Love, One Night in Miami, Godzilla vs. Kong, and many more.
Reddick’s TV presence was undeniable, featuring in an impressive roster of shows including The West Wing, Oz, Falcone, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He also had cameos in CSI: Miami, LOST, Fringe, The Blacklist, Ricky and Morty, American Horror Story, DuckTales, Castlevania, Bosch, and an array of other shows.
Lance Reddick recently concluded filming for the debut season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, where he takes on the role of Zeus. Meanwhile, in December, news broke of his participation in the Ballerina installment of the popular John Wick series. “Charon is crucial to the Wick universe. It’s reassuring to know Lance will keep making his mark on this franchise,” producer Erica Lee announced. The project was wrapped in February, setting the stage for Reddick’s reprisal.
