Raven K Jackson Death – Obituary, Cause Of Death: The Detroit Lions have until Tuesday afternoon to cut their roster to 53 players ahead of the new season. Some of the biggest questions heading into the roster deadline include the battle at backup quarterback, Tom Kennedy’s status and tight end depth, and more.
Crash: I think it feels better to keep a program player than a backup quarterback. Tim Boyle didn’t do enough work to win the job. David Bluff hardly did enough to embrace it. Boyle always seems to be at the top of the coaching staff. But his training camp and preseason were mostly ugly, if not memorable. Bluff has already started one regular season. He also seemed more at ease, showing some craftiness and some nice pitches in the ugly preseason finale. Keep an eye out for the Lions and their second-placed immunity in the league, as they might work it out.
Breakdown: Justin Jackson has a solid track record. He showed up in the middle of training camp and had a great preseason. The Lions even made Jackson and Craig Grenoz the Pittsburgh returners. Reynolds is the steady hand in this room. Jackson provides the team with a veteran behind DeAndre Swift and Jamal Williams. Jermar Jefferson has shown some growth, but not enough to take Jackson off this roster or replace Reynolds. Godwin Igwebuike was a kickoff returner last season, but didn’t have many key chances in training camp or preseason. Jackson took someone else’s job, while Reynolds stayed in his place.
