Richard Nilton Carrillo Troconis, better known as “Richard Carrillo”, was arrested in Murdered in the Maracaibo prison 72 hours later. In Maracaibo, Venezuela, between 2000 and 2006, some 25 university students were raped in the last six years, leaving the community of the University of Zulia in Venezuela in constant panic.
On November 25, two women who were sexually assaulted reported the incident to the National Police, accusing Richard Carrillo of being the culprit. However, there are many contradictions behind the case, and even Carrillo’s neighbors have assured that this behavior is very unusual in the young Peruvian who has lived in Venezuela for 16 years. Police framed Carrillo for raping the women and 25 others over the years and accused him of being the one who tormented the Suria community over the years.
“Richard was not a rapist. He was healthy, calm and cooperative. He didn’t disrespect any woman, and he didn’t seem like a sadist,” said housewife Heidy Morales Tell La Verdad from Venezuela. At the time of the arrest, some 50 people protested Carrillo’s detention and the irregularities in the case and assured that Carrillo was not detained in front of the university, as the police had indicated, but in front of his residence.
Carrillo was arrested and placed in pretrial detention pending sentencing at his trial; however, 72 hours after his arrest, he was murdered by the same inmates in Cell 2A, Building C. Guards found Carrillo in his cell with fatal stab wounds after his cellmate stabbed him, inserted him the knife in the rectum and take it away for the alleged crime. His intestines killed him.
“We never heard a scream or a moan, it was the prisoners themselves who told us that he was dead, he was alone in his cell, the prisoners were all in their rooms, even the corridors were empty as if there was nothing. The same thing happened. .” said Alejandro Peña, an official at the Preventive Detention and Arrest Center. In addition to killing him, the prisoners recorded the moment in which they were injured and sexually abused by multiple people.
Richard Carrillo’s video circulated for a few moments but could not be played due to its sensitivity and bloody content. It should be noted that many people believe that the Carrillo case is just a story or legend fabricated by Venezuela, but some Venezuelan media have information about Richard’s video.
Less than a month later, a case of rape on the campus of the University of Zulia was reported to the police, who ruled out Carrillo as the culprit of the rape for 200 years.
