Satish was born on April 13, 1956 in Mahendragarh, Haryana. He graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi in 1972. He is a graduate of the Indian National Institute of Drama and the School of Film and Television.

As a film actor, he is best known for his role as “The Calendar” in “Mr.” India, played Pappu Pager in Deewana Mastana and Chanu Ahmed in Sarah Gavron’s British film Brick Lane (2007). He won the Filmfare Award for Best Comedy Actor twice: in 1990 for Ram Lakhan and in 1997 for Saajan Chale Sasural.
As a theatrical actor, he is best known for his role as “Which” in the Hindi drama “Salesman Ramlal” based on Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman”. Willy Loman.”
He wrote the dialogue for Kundan Shah’s comedy classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983).

His 2009 film Teree Sang, starring Ruslaan Mumtaz and Sheena Shahabadi, explored teenage pregnancy.
His first film as a director was Sridevi’s Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993). His second feature was Prem (1995), which would be Tabu’s first film. Both were box office disasters.  He continued to make films and scored his first hit in 1999 with Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.
He is best known for his role as “The Calendar” in the hit film “Mr. India” alongside Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. He is also known for his role as Pappu Pager in the comedy Deewana Mastana (1997) directed by his friend David Dhawan.
He co-authored and hosts the TV countdown show “Philips Top 10”, for which he won a Screen Videocon Award.
In 2005, Kaushik directed Arjun Rampal, Amisha Patel and Zayed Khan in Vaada.
In 2007, Kaushik started a new film company called Karol Bagh Productions with his NSD collaborator Anupam Kher.  Her first film, Teree Sang, was directed by Satish Kaushik.
His next work is based on the life of Tansen, one of the Navaratnas at the court of Akbar the Great. It is produced by Rajshri Productions. The role of Tansen is played by Abhishek Bachchan and the soundtrack is composed by Ravindra Jain. The film’s script is being finalized. Satish Kaushik is committed to promoting the film industry in Haryana and has committed to producing five films there.
He plays the lead role of Nawaab Jung Bahadur in the new SAB TV show The Great Indian Family Drama produced by Contiloe Productions. Now he has decided to make a sequel to his hit film Tere Naam (2003). He recently played Tayaji in the movie Udta Punjab (2016).
