At least four people were killed and nine others were injured in a shooting at a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, Monday morning, police said. The suspected shooter also died at the scene.
Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said officers received a call about a shooting at the Old National Bank at around 8:30 a.m. “
The shooter, whose name was not immediately released, was also pronounced dead at the scene, Chief Humphrey said. “We do not currently know the exact circumstances of his death,” he said.
Police did not provide a motive for the shooting, but they said the shooter had ties to the bank and may have been a current or former employee. “We believe this is a lone shooter with ties to the bank,” Commissioner Humphrey said at a news conference.
Four people were killed at the bank and at least eight, including a police officer, were taken to nearby hospitals, the deputy chief said. He said two people were in critical condition, including a police officer who underwent surgery Monday morning.
“The public has not identified any active threats at this time,” Commissioner Humphrey said.

The bank is located across from the Louisville Ballpark, the minor league ballpark for the Louisville bats. The area includes many hotels and apartment complexes.
University Hospital of Louisville has received nine patients from the shooting, including two police officers, spokeswoman Heather Fountaine said in an email. By early Monday afternoon, at least three patients had been discharged, she said.
Former National Bank CEO Jim Ryan joined other executives at the Louisville building on Monday.
“The safety of Old National Bank employees and everyone we serve in our bank centers is paramount,” Ryan said in a statement posted on Facebook. “While we await more details, we are deploying staff support and our prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy.”
